Erica Kay as the Portrait Artist

By September 28, 2015 June 23rd, 2016 Meet the Photographers

With all of the Marvel and DC Comic movies hitting the theaters the last few years, there’s a lot of talk out there about superheroes. Thor can wield a crazy heavy hammer, Iron Man is brilliant and has numerous business ventures, Batman is a badass who operates under the cover of the shadows. They’re amazing, and everyone wants to be that awesome. But listen, we have a superhero at UA Creative too, because she does all of those things. Well, basically. So it’s not a hammer, it’s a crazy heavy camera, but tomato tomato (guess that doesn’t really play non-verbally?).

Captain Pint Size, also known as Erica Kay, is our boudoir and senior portrait artist and she is brilliant, wields a heavy camera and operates in the shadows because that’s usually where the best light is located.  Along with being a part of UA Creative, Erica also owns and operates Erica Kay Photography where she shoots engagements and weddings. You can find out more about Erica over on her about me page, but if you need more insight into the secret world of Erica Kay, check out her answers below to a very technical, psychology-based questionnaire.

Movie(s) you could watch on repeat.

10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, Dangerous Minds…apparently I’m stuck in high school.

Who or what is your spirit animal?

All of the dogs on the face of the Earth.

First CD/album/cassette tape you ever purchased?

TLC’s Crazy Sexy Cool

Do you have a nickname?

E. Apparently that’s easier than trying to spit out the entire word, Erica.

Favorite activity for a rainy day?

Couch and Netflix. I love any excuse to be lazy.

Favorite activity for a beautiful summer day?

Hiking or whitewater rafting or jumping out of planes.

Something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I “do” about a million different things. Obviously, I photograph things, but I also teach World History, work for a non-profit that supports AIDS orphans in Africa, and own a travel company!

What was the weirdest behavior you had as a child?

I was quite the curious little rascal. For example, I once found a pink “gumball” on the ground and just had to have it. I soon realized it was a pink paintball. Unfortunately, that realization didn’t occur until after I bit into it.

Besides what you currently do, what do you wish someone paid you to do? This doesn’t have to be a well-known job, you can get creative.

I wish I could be a TV and movie critic, but instead of actually having to write reviews and stuff, I could just give it a star rating and move on to the next one. Basically, I just want to make millions of dollars for staring at my TV.

Decade in history (besides this one) you think you would have been best suited for?

The late 60s/early 70s. I’m a closet hippie.

What do you think your identifier is? Like if someone were trying to describe you to someone else, what would they say first?

“That little, blonde girl.”

What makes you cringe?

Mouth noises, wrinkly clothes, maltreatment of the English language.

Erica is also a Libra, for those of you that care.
